About Metro Low-Floor Priority Service
The Metro low-floor priority bus service for persons with disabilities was launched on 21st April 2026 at the Multimodal Transport Center in Makumbura.
This initiative is part of the Clean Sri Lanka program, supported by an investment of Rs. 430.7 million.
Phase 1 Overview
- Ten modern, air-conditioned low-floor buses are deployed.
- Buses are specially designed for easy wheelchair access.
- Specialized technical features are included for wheelchair safety and travel stability.
Service Details
- Seating Capacity: 33
- Total Capacity: 80
- Payment methods: QR / Card / Cash
- Service runs every 40 minutes during morning and evening peak hours on Makumbura to Pettah and Makumbura to Kadawatha routes.
Healthcare Access
The routes are strategically planned to improve access to major healthcare hubs, including Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama and the National Hospital of Sri Lanka in Colombo.
